Sparta District
In 1685, the Sint Sinck Indians sold the land that became much of Westchester to a Dutch patroon named Philipse. A century later, a tenant farmer named Peter Davis bought the 200 acres that would become Sparta and built a tavern near the docking facilities that grew up there.A lovely neighborhood with an historic cemetery, Sparta still has many beautiful 18th and 19th century houses.
